You can use Diamond to write applications for CPUs (including Digital Signal Processors and General-Purpose Processors) and FPGAs; the combinations of these that you can use will depend on the particular Diamond licence you have purchased. Licences for the Sundance edition of Diamond specify the maximum number of DSPs or FPGAs you may use in any application. Even if you don't have a licence for creating your own FPGA bitstreams, you can still make use of the default firmware that comes with the hardware. You may purchase upgrades through your distributor to increase the capabilities of your installations.
Your licences are held on a dongle that must be attached to your PC when you build your applications. Once built, applications can be run without the dongle being present.
Diamond will check the number of processors you have used against your licences as it builds your application. Should the number of processors you use exceed the licensed limit, Diamond will refuse to complete the build and will not generate an application.
